The Cognitive Benefits of Being Bilingual.

Researchers have shown that the bilingual brain can have better attention and task-switching capacities than the monolingual brain, thanks to its developed ability to inhibit one language while using another.

Inter-subject comparability in GCSE modern foreign languages

Dr Michelle Meadows, Director of Strategy, Risk and Research, said:

"Building on our extensive body of work, we have looked at this issue from a wide range of different perspectives. We are satisfied that a sufficiently strong case exists for us to intervene to adjust grading standards in GCSE French and German. We are talking to exam boards about how best to implement this adjustment."

What will the English language be like in 100 years?

One way of predicting the future is to look back at the past. The global role English plays today as a lingua franca – used as a means of communication by speakers of different languages – has parallels in the Latin of pre-modern Europe.

"Sharon is such a patient teacher! I feel extremely comfortable and Sharon is very clear and encouraging." (Adult learner of French)

- Emily

"An excellent tutor. My daughter really connects well and is building confidence already. Would highly recommend. (English GCSE)

- Mrs Hall

"Sharon is very patient and therefore it makes the lesson enjoyable as well as educational."

- Gill

"Sharon is very friendly, relaxed, patient and can adapt to her students needs. Highly recommended A+++++"

- Scott

"I'm delighted to report that Dan got a level 6 in both English Language and English Literature [he was forecast 4s]. He is very happy.  Thank you for all your hard work with him.  I know it made a huge difference to his confidence and Dan always enjoyed his sessions with you."

- Caroline

"Sharon is a very talented teacher. My progress in the last month has outstripped my previous attempts by a wide margin. The lessons have been interesting and fun, with just the right amount of knowledge to absorb. I would recommend Sharon to students of any level." (Adult learner of Spanish)

-  Ian

"My son is dyslexic but extremely able in Maths and Sciences. He has always struggled with English and in order to get into a good 6th form needs to pass English. I couldn’t have found anyone better for him than Sharon. Over the past year he has always come out of each session very positive and chatty. His confidence has grown immensely. He even waxes lyrical about the set texts, something I never expected! Sharon tailors her tuition beautifully to the learner and her reliability and professionalism are always evident. I would not hesitate to recommend Sharon."

- Caroline

"Sharon is an excellent tutor. She is professional and very reliable. Her approach to teaching languages is ideal not only for giving my daughter confidence but enhancing her A level French skills..."

- Mr Voysey

" I have no hesitation in recommending Sharon, she has been a superb Spanish tutor for our daughter during the run up to her GCSE's. She is patient, kind, encouraging and professional, Alice has really enjoyed her weekly lesson which has maximised her understanding and learning of this language and this in turn has given her the confidence which has been so lacking...

...She mainly had one-to-one lessons but had an extra couple of on-lines too which work better than I had anticipated. Sharon genuinely cares about her students and should Alice be continuing with Spanish at A Level we would definitely continue with additional tutoring with her. I have already recommended Sharon to other friends and will continue to do so. A fantastic tutor. I dropped so lucky finding her!"

- Mr S Liversidge

"Sharon has been a great influence on our daughter’s A-Level French this year - our only regret was that we didn’t find her sooner! Sharon is professional, responsive, friendly and fun and our daughter’s confidence has grown so much over the last few months. We would not hesitate in recommending Sharon. Thanks!"                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 - Paul

"As a mature person I was a little worried about learning a new language, especially as I found learning French at school very difficult. From the first lesson Sharon made me feel confident and Sharon’s teaching style puts me at ease, I’m so glad I made the decision to learn Spanish and would highly recommend Sharon to those looking for a tutor."
